Getting ready for your gutter cleaning: a simple checklist

4 min read

Open side gate and clear path along a two-storey house ready for a gutter cleaning

Before a gutter cleaning, unlock side gates, clear the ground under the eaves (cars, furniture, planters, toys), bring pets inside and note anything the crew should know, like a loose downspout or a wasp nest. You don't need to be home. Payment is due at the halfway point, and your photos arrive when the job is done.

The checklist

  1. 1Unlock every side and back gate the crew will need, or leave a gate code in your booking notes.
  2. 2Move cars off the driveway if gutters run above it, so ladders and debris bags have room.
  3. 3Pull patio furniture, planters, barbecues and toys a couple of metres back from the walls under the gutters.
  4. 4Bring pets inside, and mention any that will be in the yard when you book.
  5. 5Note anything the crew should know: a downspout that always overflows, a wasp nest, a fragile garden bed, a loose section.
  6. 6Tell us about gutter guards, heat cables or a rain barrel so the crew comes prepared.
  7. 7Keep your phone handy: the payment request comes by email when the job is about halfway done.

Do you need to be home?

No. As long as the crew can reach the gutters, they do the job and send your photos. Many customers are at work. If you are home, you are welcome to watch, but nothing about the visit depends on it.

What happens before the day?

When you book, you get a work order to review and confirm online. Confirming counts as your signature, and there is nothing to pay and no card to enter: it is $0 to book. The work order sets out the price, the date and the terms, including payment, weather and changes, so there are no surprises on the day.

What if it rains or gets windy?

Ladder work in ice, storms or high winds is not safe, and nobody should be on a ladder in those conditions. Whether conditions are safe is a call made on the day. If the weather makes your date unsafe, you are moved to the next service day for your area and the new date is confirmed by email, at no charge.

How does payment work?

The full amount, including HST, is due when the job is about half complete; the pricing page shows what your home type costs. You get a payment request by email at that point and can pay by Interac e-Transfer, or in cash to the crew on site. The crew finishes the rest once payment is received, and the before and after photos arrive when the job is done. How to read your photo report explains what to look for.

What if the crew finds a problem?

Minor repairs spotted on site, like a loose hanger, a leaking seam or a short sagging run, are priced on site, from $89, and you approve before any work starts. Optional add-ons can go on the booking: a roof debris blow-off is $59 and a gutter-face wash is $99. Anything bigger than a minor repair, you are told straight and pointed to the right trade.

What if you need to change the date?

Rescheduling or cancelling is free up to 48 hours before your date: use the manage link in your emails, reply to any of them, or call. Within 48 hours of the visit, a $50 visit fee may apply, because the crew's day is already routed.

What does the visit look like in Vaughan?

Vaughan's large two-storey detached homes mean long gutter runs, and in the newer subdivisions from Vellore Village to Thornhill Woods, side yards are often narrow and fenced. An unlocked gate and a clear side path save real time when crews are carrying tall ladders. In Kleinburg and old Woodbridge against the Humber valley, oak and maple debris is constant, so it is worth noting heavy corners in your booking.

In 2026, gutter cleaning in Vaughan is $399 before HST for a two-storey detached home, plus $20 for a heavily treed lot and $40 if guards have to come off and go back on. What happens during a cleaning walks through the visit itself.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a gutter cleaning take?

Most homes take one to three hours. A bungalow is quick; a large two- or three-storey home with gutter guards takes the long end of that range.

What if my gate has a lock?

Leave it unlocked on the day, or put the gate code in your booking notes. If the crew cannot reach part of the roofline, they can only clean what they can get to.

Should I move my car before the crew arrives?

If gutters run above your driveway, yes. Ladders need firm, clear ground, and debris bags need somewhere to go. Moving the car also keeps it clear of anything that falls during clearing.

Can I add a roof blow-off or gutter-face wash on the day?

It is easiest to add them when you book, so the crew plans the time. If you decide on the day, ask the crew; if their schedule allows, they can often fit it in.
